I still remember the lies. That I wasn't good enough, that I was too emotional, that I wouldn't be able to handle it, that I wouldn't make a difference.
The enemy of love whispered claims to me after the author of love whispered a calling. My agreement with the claims stopped me for awhile, until I named the claims what they were - lies. The enemy tried to keep me from taking the first step so he could steal the impact of my walking a path that would grow my faith and bless others in the name of love.
In this story it was a calling to put my faith, through God's love, into action. To invest myself into a ministry where I was very much not equipped to care for people with trauma and significant needs. But what I experienced is that when you put your trust in the Lord, He creates equipping and provides for you in more amazing ways than you could ever imagine.
This story was a very long time ago, but it was one of the first times I remember clearly deciphering which was the voice of God and which was the enemy's. And then choosing to reject the lies of the enemy and believe that what God was saying was true. That He alone is enough to lead me in how to love well.
Whatever whisper you are hearing, is it a lie or is it love? Is it a claim or a calling?
God IS love and He does have a calling for you. You may have many throughout your years, because He definitely wants to use you to change lives and hearts. But He desires to begin with yours.
Ask Him to reveal a way He wants to grow and bless you through loving others. Then, believe in your heart and mind that you are everything He says you are in Scripture. Loved. Accepted. Worthy. And that He is all you need to walk out the action of being called to love.
